Altar contest, day of the dead / dias de los muertos
Invite your students to build their own altar either by themselves or as a group

For the competition
- Rectangular tables will be assigned to students upon request via email to Prof. Lupita Adame.
- Upon entering the competition, you will be required to provide the following:
- the instructor´s name
- the Spanish class level, and
- the topic or theme of your altar (example: Prof. Lupita Adame, Spanish 215, Frida Khalo).
- Altars will be set in room D121A/B at San Diego City College.
- Tables will be available starting October 30th at 10am if students choose to start their altar one day earlier.
- Students who choose to start their altar on the day of the event October 31st will only be given 2 hours from 8am to 10am to realize their project.
- The exhibition of all the altars will take place from 10am to 1:30pm.
- Participants in the contest and their respective professor are responsible for taking down all the material and decoration used for the event. Please make sure to fold the tables and chairs as well.
- Each altar must be attended at all time to avoid any accidents. Keep in mind that students will bring personal items that might be valuable and consequently can be lost or stolen.
- Three judges will select the best altar and consequently the winner. The winner will be announced by the end of the event or before 1:30pm on October 31st.
- Please contact Prof. Lupita Adame for any questions regarding the altar competition.
DECORATION
- Students and/or professors will bring their own tablecloth, boxes and any other material necessary to create the altar. (cf. glue guns, scissors, stapler, tape, electrical extensions...etc.).
- Please, avoid to lend or borrow any items as they may get misplaced or lost.
- Candles, copal and incense can be only used for decoration. Due to fire risk, no burning of incense or lighting candles will be allowed.
- Please refrain from hanging any decoration on walls or ceiling.
- Decorations for the altar can only be set on top of the table.

For more details about the DAY OF THE DEAD event please join us on Friday, October 4th at the Languages Department meeting from 11:00am to 1:00pm in Room R116.
Because of space where the event is taking place the number of tables will be limited. Please let me know, how many tables you will be needed for your students no later than October 2.
For the tables requested a lottery will be drawn during our department meeting. Please be aware that you must be present at the meeting to get into the drawing. Tables requested after the meeting will be given a number randomly if we have a space.
